The International Federation of Biomedical Laboratory Science (IFBLS) is an independent non-governmental association of national societies in 35 countries, representing more than 165,000 medical laboratory scientists and technologists worldwide.

The IFBLS was originally called the International Association of Medical Laboratory Technologists – IAMLT.

The objectives of International Federation of Biomedical Laboratory Sciences is to support, advance and promote good laboratory practice through the development and adherence to high quality standards in diverse environments throughout the world. 

Every second year a World Congress of Medical Technology is organized in a member country: in 1996 in Oslo, Norway, in 1998 in Singapore, in 2000 in Vancouver, Canada and in 2002 in Orlando, USA, in 2004 in Stockholm, Sweden, in 2006 in Seoul, South Korea.  In 2008 it will be held in New Delhi, India. The Congress covers all fields of medical laboratory technology/science including management and education.
